Our respect for the creative work of others guides our policies to ensure that our work does not deny copyright owners of potential income from reproduction of the images they have created.

Photo Montage and Photo Collage Designs

Most of the images we work with to create photo montage and collage projects are family snapshots and personal photos, however, we receive some photos taken by professional photographers. Photos taken by professionals are copyrighted and permission must be obtained for their use. Most studios will grant permission for one-time use of their photos in montages or collages. Some photographers will charge a small fee for use of their copyrighted images. Many photographers transfer copyright for their images to their clients in CD packages at the time the images are created.

Milestone Images has a simple copyright release form that you can download to obtain permission from the copyright holder for use of their images in a montage or collage. When necessary, we will be happy to contact the copyright holder to answer any questions or provide additional information.

Photo restoration and enhancement...

We will not knowingly infringe on the intellectual property rights, including copyrights, of others by copying and reproducing individual photographs, works of art or other materials for the purpose of creating additional identical copies. When an image is copyrighted or imprinted with a photographer or studio name, every effort possible will be made to obtain copyright permission. Milestone Images has a simple copyright release form that you can download to obtain permission from the copyright holder.

However, it is our belief that the importance of preserving family histories and other historical images requires a degree of flexibility and common sense. This is an especially important consideration related to restoration of damaged, faded or stained images when the original copyright holder or his/her heirs or agents are no longer identifiable or locatable to restore or replace the images. Each project request is considered on an individual basis after every possible effort is made to obtain copyright permission.

We retain the right to display the work we perform for our clients in our gallery, at our shop, at shows, in printed materials and on the Web unless otherwise agreed to prior to initiation of the project.
